THE FABELMANS is only secondarily a Steven Spielberg origin story; primarily, it’s a look-at-what-she-can-do Michelle Williams vehicle and MW *really* goes for it, like someone who knows she’s been handed her signature role. Back-to-back Spielberg wins in Supporting Actress?

Steven Spielberg’s #TheFabelmans is a wonderful & heartbreaking coming-of-age story about a kid falling in love w/ moviemaking as his parents are falling out of love w/ each other. Once the film grabs you, it absolutely does not let go. Another Spielberg classic. Loved it #TIFF22 pic.twitter.com/1mqqcwu5Cb

The Fabelmans is the biggest love letter to movies from an artist that has shaped generations of film lovers tastes. #TIFF22

There's your best picture. The Fabelmans is magical, uplifting, heartwarming, heartwrenching, whimsical and all around great. Michelle Williams shines, Judd Hirsch and David Lynch are standouts, Dano great, young cast superb. Spielberg's best in years! #TIFF22

Steven Spielberg’s THE FABELMANS isn’t just deeply personal, it’s also sneakily ambitious — a ruminative inventorying of some of the psychological motivations which turned him on to filmmaking, melded with no small amount of swollen-hearted adult forgiveness. It sings. #TIFF22

The Fabelmans has Oscar written all over it. This is Spielberg’s most personal film and one that pays homage to complicated families as well as a love of cinema. Gabriel LaBelle is phenomenal and Chloe East steals the show! Paul Dano is also fantastic! #TheFabelmans #TIFF22 pic.twitter.com/WLDf1vtFTf

THE FABELMANS: Life ain’t like the movies. And yet the movies help us hold onto life. Spielberg’s whole heart is up on that screen.

FABELMANS: An imperfect but passionate movie from Steven Spielberg. At 150 minutes it contains both his strengths and weaknesses as a filmmaker. Judd Hirsch stole the show and he’s just in it for 10 minutes. Incredible cameo from David Lynch. Michelle Williams Oscar-bound #TIFF

THE FABELMANS is Spielberg fan service for diehards. Not a knock. His most contained movie in decades, a very small and sweet coming of age story that is almost certainly the closest he’ll come to his own memoir. #TIFF22
