“Qualcuno può spiegarmi cosa è successo al mio bellissimo figlio? Cosa ho fatto di sbagliato?”: queste sono le strazianti domande che David Shelf si pone quando si sveglia ogni giorno. Suo figlio Nic ha appena 18 anni ed è dipendente dal crystal meth. Con il suo problema, Nic non mette in pericolo solo il suo futuro ma anche quello di tutta la sua famiglia. David dovrà resistere a tutto pur di salvare suo figlio. Tratto dalle autobiografie di David e Nic Sheff, Beautiful Boy è uno dei titoli che più hanno commosso il pubblico del CinemaCon di Las Vegas.
Al panel di Amazon Studios, sono state difatti presentate le prime scene del debutto in lingua inglese del regista belga Felix Van Groeningen, autore del film candidato all’Oscar Alabama Monroe. A vestire i panni di David Sheff è Steve Carell, mentre nei panni del figlio afflitto da dipendenza dalla metanfetamina il giovane ma già nominato alla statuetta Timothée Chalamet, già in odore di nuova menzione da parte dell’Academy.
Beautiful Boy arriva nelle sale statunitensi in limited release a partire dal 12 ottobre, lasciando presagire una possibile partecipazione ai festival autunnali.
