Dopo l'annuncio di La favorita, il prossimo film di Yorgos Lanthimos, come film di apertura, e di Van Gogh - At Eternity's Gate come film di chiusura, il prestigioso New York Film Festival rivela la sua selezione ufficiale. La 56ª edizione del festival della grande male si svolgerà dal 28 settembre al 14 ottobre; poche le esclusive, ma numerosi i grandi nomi in ballo.
Grandi passi per il gioiellino di Alice Rohrwacher, Lazzaro felice, che spicca come rappresentanza italiana nella selezione. In comune con Venezia, oltre al biopic di Schnabel e La favorita, troviamo anche The Ballad of Buster Scruggs dei Coen. Anche a New York, come a Toronto, il film di Barry Jenkins, Se le strade potessero parlare, e High Life di Claire Denis. Widlife di Dano, continua la sua presenza fissa ai festival americani.
