Se la strada potesse parlare è il miglior film dell'anno per il circolo della critica di Boston; al film di Barry Jenkins anche i premi alla miglior attrice non protagonista andato a Regina King, che si conferma come la favorita della critica in questa stagione dei premi, e alla miglior colonna sonora.
Tre premi anche a Copia originale, che trionfa nelle categorie attoriali grazie alle vittorie di Melissa McCarthy e Richard E. Grant ed ottiene anche il riconoscimento alla miglior sceneggiatura dell'anno. La vera sorpresa di questi premi è, però, il giapponese Un affare di famiglia di Hirokazu Kore-eda che non solo ha vinto il premio come miglior cast e quello come miglior film straniero, ma è arrivato secondo nelle votazioni della categoria principale, battendo addirittura La Favorita. C'è una grande presenza di film stranieri in questa selezione fatta dai critici di Boston che, al di là dell'amore dimostrato per il film di Kore-eda, includono Cold War tra i runner up in due diverse categorie e votano Roma come il film con la miglior fotografia, stranamente l'unica menzione ottenuta dal film di Alfonso Cuaròn. Inattesi, ma del tutto meritati, i premi alla miglior regia a Lynne Ramsey e al miglior attore a John C. Reilly, che ottengono così i primi consensi significativi della loro awards season.
