Sono finalmente state annunciate le nomination agli Oscar di quest’anno, con un po’ di ritardo rispetto al solito poiché, per via delle complicazioni dovute alla pandemia, le finestre della stagione dei premi si sono ampliate, dando origine alla più lunga e sorprendente awards season degli ultimi anni.
Le sorprese non sono mancate, così come le conferme. Ottiene 10 candidature Mank, che però non riceve la nomination alla sceneggiatura per il defunto Jack Fincher, padre del candidato David. Lo strafavorito Nomadland ottine 6 nomination, 4 delle quali vanno a Chloe Zhao, persona più candidata dell’anno, nonché prima donna di origine asiatica ad essere candidata alla regia. A quota sei arrivano anche Minari e il processo ai Chicago 7, mentre si fermano a 5 The Father e Promising Young Woman.
Le vere sorprese di questa edizione? Judas and the Black Messiah, che arriva a quota 6, Another Round che rientra anche alla miglior regia, e The Sound of Metal, che ottiene 6 insperate candidature. Altrettanto inaspettate sono le doppie nomination di Collective e Pinocchio, la presenza di “Husavik” tra le migliori canzoni e Better Days e The Man Who Sold His Skin tra i film stranieri.
Per la prima volta nella storia due donne sono candidate alla miglior regia, mentre altri due candidati hanno diretto film principalmente non in lingua inglese. Grandi esclusi Sorkin e King. Grande diversità in tutte le categorie attoriali, in una delle edizioni più bilanciate e rinfrescanti di sempre.
