Nuovi titoli, perlopiù scelti in un ampissima selezione di circuiti festivalieri passati, per la impressionante lineup del Toronto Film Festival 2016.

Ulteriore conferma di come il TIFF sia, senza mezzi termini, la vetrina più prestigiosa per il cinema internazionale a caccia di premi e riconoscimenti.

Non soltanto presenze illustri e acclamatissime come la Palma d’Oro I, Daniel Blake di Ken Loach, o gli apprezzati Julieta di Pedro Almodovar e il Premio alla Regia a Cannes Personal Shopper di Olivier Assayas, ma colpisce nella nuova lineup di titoli aggiunti anche la presenza di due pellicole in Anteprima Internazionale: The Promise di Terry George (di cui l’immagine sopra) e Wakefield di Robin Swicord.

Il primo film, scritto a quattro mani dallo stesso George e da Robin Swicord, affianca il Premio Oscar Christian Bale  al lanciatissimo Oscar Isaac in una storia dal sapore “antico”:
Ambientato durante gli ultimi giorni dell’Impero Ottomano, “The Promise” segue un triangolo amoroso che nasce tra Michael, un brillante studente di medicina, la bellissima e sofisticata Ana, e Chris, un noto giornalista americano che vive e lavora a Parigi.


Il secondo titolo, diretto guarda caso da Swicord stesso, è ispirato alla incredibile storia vera di Howard Wakefield che, dopo una grave crisi di nervi, decide di lasciare la moglie e di vivere per diversi mesi nel garage del suo attico, dedito al vagabondaggio e ad un vita da barbone.
Seconda Nomination all’Oscar consecutiva per il protagonista Bryan Cranston dopo quella inaspettata dello scorso anno con Trumbo?
