Nel 1988 Gary Hart, politico democratico, è considerato il favorito per la corsa alle elezioni presidenziali. La sua campagna subisce però una battuta d’arresto a causa dell’accusa di avere una relazione extraconiugale con l’attrice Donna Rice. In breve ciò porterà il senatore Hart ad abbandonare i suoi propositi elettorali. Sbarca al Telluride Film Festival il biopic politico The Front Runner, diretto dal regista e sceneggiatore candidato all’Oscar Jason Reitman.
Apprezzato per la furba e linguacciuta sceneggiatura, già comparata alla scrittura tipica del cinema di Aaron Sorkin, e per la performance di un Hugh Jackman in forma smagliante, The Front Runner potrebbe ritrovarsi all’inizio del prossimo anno tra i titoli protagonisti delle nomination per il miglior attore protagonista.
